NEWS ZOOTAKSI ANYONE?

NEWS ZOOTAKSI ANYONE? THE SLEEP TAXI Hotel too expensive? In New York you can now also spend the night in the sleep taxi. The 35-year old owner prefers to sell Christmas trees in the run up to the big day and therefore provides his vehicle for overnight stays at the equivalent of Uber’s next step: dentistry? Hopefully not DentistPOP ... Earlier this year, during our visit to the Taxi Expo in St. Petersburg Taxi Times discovered the Russian taxi market to be somewhat different from the European taxi market. Not only does the local taxi trade in St. Petersburg offer ordinary taxis and even special taxis for women – driven by women and aimed at women, but small pets like cats and dogs can also have their own taxi, via the special app ‘Zootaksi’: “As with people, our pets may need to move around the city or even beyond. For example, visit the hair salon, go to the vet, participate in a show, or even go and hunt. With or without you.” Zootaksi is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. “We have tried to reconcile the nature of motor vehicles and four-legged passengers. Transport of animals in Zootaksi will be a pleasant trip for you. In our Zootaksi there are no muzzles and harnesses and we do not put animals in cages. After each trip the taxi is disinfected completely. The Zootaksi-drivers are trained and have extensive experience in dealing with pets. They will understand you and your pet.” wf €45. You cannot find a hotel in Manhattan for less than €200. But the idea is not completely new: you could spend the night in a black club during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The fun cost £75 back then - around €95. tb THE UBER-DENTIST Generally speaking, a visit to the dentist is not always a pleasure. Whilst settling into the comfortable dentist’s chair for his regular check-up, one of Taxi Times’ managing editors briefly closed his eyes. Moments later he stared right into that well-known ‘U’-logo of the seemingly omnipresent San Francisco tech company – part of the light fixture above him. We can imagine that after carrying passengers, delivery of foods and goods is high on Uber’s development list, but dentistry? Even the dentist, who admitted using “only the legal Uber services” was flummoxed by the ‘U’ of the equipment supplier and promised to shine a light on it. Our editor just closed his eyes for the rest of the treatment. wf 26 Zootaksi-drivers understand you and your pet ...
